Recipe Video
Ingredients
- 12tablespoons de Lye flakes (Sodium Hydroxide)
- 200ml de Water
- 1,2liter de Oil
- 150ml de Household bleach
- 150ml de Store-bought dish soap
- 2tablespoons de Sugar
Instructions
Mix 12 tablespoons of lye flakes in 200 ml of water (approximately 150g) and let it dissolve in a well-ventilated area (outside).
Dica: Perform this step away from people and outside due to the nature of caustic soda (lye).
Place 1.2 liters of oil (can be used) in the blender.
Dica: The used oil that would otherwise be discarded is being reused.
Add 150 ml of household bleach to the oil in the blender.
Dica: Note what household bleach is called in your region (e.g., chlorine bleach, Clorox).
Blend the mixture of oil and bleach for 1 minute in the blender until creamy.
Dica: The mixture might become creamy in just 30 seconds.
Add 150 ml of store-bought dish soap and 2 tablespoons of sugar (to protect your hands).
Dica: The sugar helps prevent the soap from drying out or damaging your hands.
Blend the mixture again for another 30 seconds.
Incorporate the diluted lye solution into the blender mixture by pouring slowly.
Dica: Cover the blender when adding the lye, but open it slightly immediately afterward to release gases and prevent pressure buildup.
Mix quickly until the mass visibly thickens, as the soap hardens rapidly.
Dica: The blender will get hot due to the reaction.
Transfer the mixture immediately to the molds of your choice.
Dica: This process must be fast, as the soap hardens quickly.
Let the soap harden completely. Although it is firm like soap right after the process, it is recommended to wait 3 days to 1 week before handling and using it due to the high lye concentration.
Dica: After curing, the soap becomes very hard and foamy, leaving dishes sparkling clean.
