Ingredients
- 3units de Eggs
- 1,5cup de Sugar
- 2cup de Cornmeal (for polenta)
- Margarine
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes.
Dica: Be sure to grease the pan well with margarine and dust it with all-purpose flour before starting to prepare the batter.
In a bowl, place the three eggs and lightly beat them, the way it was traditionally done with a fork.
Dica: Use a hand whisk or a wooden spoon, as demonstrated.
Add one and a half cups of sugar to the eggs and start mixing with the wooden spoon.
Dica: It’s recommended to keep a wooden spoon designated exclusively for sweets.
Incorporate the two cups of cornmeal into the mixture and stir well.
Add the cup of all-purpose flour and a pinch of salt to the batter.
Add a half cup of oil to ensure the cake stays moist (or use two tablespoons of margarine instead of oil).
Dica: Oil helps keep the cake moister.
Add one cup of milk and continue mixing all ingredients until the batter is smooth.
Add one tablespoon of anise seed and one tablespoon of baking powder, mixing gently.
Dica: The aroma of the anise seed is characteristic of this cake.
Pour the batter into the greased pan and immediately place it in the preheated oven to bake.
Dica: The batter starts to rise quickly, so it's important to get it into the oven right away.
After baking, let the cake cool a little before attempting to remove it from the pan.
Dica: To release cakes that have stuck, use a small knife gently tracing the edge of the pan (not the cake itself) or lightly warm the bottom of the inverted pan over a low stove burner and gently shake.
