Recipe for Cueca Virada (or Cróstole), crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, ideal for a snack or breakfast. It's an easy dough to make with simple ingredients.

Ingredients
- 2,5cups de All-purpose flour
- 1/2cup de Water
- 1/2cup de Sugar
- 1unit de Egg
- 1tablespoon level de Baking powder
- 1/4cup de Vegetable oil
- 1tablespoon de Vinegar (red or white wine)
- 1teaspoon de Vanilla extract
- All-purpose flour (for dusting)
- 1/2cup de Sugar (for finishing)
- 1teaspoon level de Ground cinnamon
- Oil (for frying)
Instructions
In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, egg, room temperature water, oil (50 ml), vinegar, and vanilla extract.
Dica: Use red or white wine vinegar; it helps make the fried pastry crispier.
Add the baking powder to the mixture and continue mixing until a smooth dough forms.
Dica: Mix for about one minute until the dough forms.
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20 minutes (time can be extended if necessary).
Divide the dough into portions and, on a floured surface (dusting flour on top and bottom), roll out a portion of the dough into a medium-thickness square (slightly larger than the palm of your hand).
Dica: Dust flour both underneath and on top of the dough when rolling.
Cut the rolled-out dough into strips approximately two fingers wide, using a pizza cutter or knife.
Dica: The size of the strips can be adjusted according to preference.
Take each strip of dough, make a cut in the center without separating the ends completely, and pass one end through the hole, twisting it to form the twisted doughnut shape.
Dica: The pieces do not need to be perfectly identical.
Heat enough oil in a deep frying pan to submerge the pastries, testing the temperature by inserting a toothpick (it should bubble lightly).
Dica: If the toothpick bubbles, the oil is hot enough.
Fry the twisted doughnuts, turning them when they are lightly golden on one side, until they achieve a uniform golden color.
Dica: Frying ensures they are soft inside and crispy outside. Avoid baking, as the result will be different.
Remove the fried pieces from the oil and place them on paper towels or a wire rack to drain excess grease.
Dica: They should come out very dry.
While the pastries are still warm, mix the remaining sugar (half a cup) with the ground cinnamon (one level teaspoon) and toss the twisted doughnuts in this mixture.
Let the sweets cool completely before storing them in jars, tins, or bags.
Dica: Complete cooling is crucial for proper storage.
