Recipe for homemade bar soap making approximately 60 bars, made with used frying oil, ideal for household cleaning.
Recipe Video
Ingredients
- 5liters de Cold water
- 1/2kg de Caustic soda flakes
- 3,5liters de Used frying oil
- 500g de Pine scent (original Pine-Sol fragrance)
- 1bottle de Dish detergent
- 3tablespoons de Table salt
Instructions
In a well-ventilated outdoor area and wearing all protective equipment (gloves, goggles, mask), weigh out half of the caustic soda flakes (500g) and slowly add them to the 5 liters of cold water in an appropriate container, turning your head aside to avoid inhaling the dust.
Dica: Always use PPE, as lye is corrosive. Do this in a well-ventilated area.
Stir the mixture of lye and cold water until the lye is completely dissolved, resulting in a thick liquid.
Dica: The mixture may thicken considerably.
In another container (bucket), pour in the 3.5 liters of used frying oil.
Dica: The oil should be recycled.
Gradually add the dissolved lye mixture to the oil and begin stirring vigorously without stopping.
Dica: It may take a long time stirring (about 35 minutes total) until it reaches the consistency of 'hard fudge.' If you have one, use a mixer to make it easier.
Incorporate the 500g of pine scent, the bottle of dish detergent, and the three tablespoons of salt into the mixture, continuing to stir until the consistency resembles very firm fudge.
Dica: Salt helps 'cut' and firm up the mixture; the scent removes the odor of the oil.
Pour the finished mixture into the prepared mold and use a tool to smooth the surface, making it level.
Dica: Do not cover the soap after pouring; let it dry uncovered and out of reach of children and pets.
After approximately 4 hours, when the soap is firm, cut it immediately into the desired portions, because if it hardens too much, it will crack when cut.
Dica: It is recommended to wait three days to a week before use due to the high initial concentration of lye.
After the curing time (ideally 3 days or more), use the soap bars to wash cloths or other items, noting the good lather formation.
Dica: If you use it before one week, it is advisable to wear gloves when handling the soap initially.
