Ingredients
- 1/2cup de popcorn kernels
- 3tablespoons de vegetable oil
- 1,5cup de granulated sugar
- 1/2teaspoon de vanilla extract
- 1level tablespoon de butter
- 1/2level teaspoon de baking soda
Instructions
Add the popcorn kernels and vegetable oil to a saucepan (or popcorn machine) and mix lightly.
Dica: If using a saucepan, leave the lid slightly ajar to let air escape, which helps the kernels pop better.
Turn the heat to high and wait for the corn to start popping, then cover the pan.
Transfer all the popped corn to a separate bowl.
In the same pan, add the granulated sugar and turn the heat to medium, stirring with a spatula until the sugar completely melts and forms caramel.
Reduce the heat and incorporate the vanilla extract into the caramel, mixing well.
Add the butter (salted or unsalted) and stir until it dissolves into the caramel.
Add the level half teaspoon of baking soda to the caramel; this will cause a foaming reaction.
Dica: The baking soda will not leave a residual taste.
Turn off the heat (or keep it as low as possible) and add the popcorn to the pan, mixing quickly to coat all the kernels with the light caramel coating.
Dica: If the caramel starts to harden, gently reheat the pan before continuing to mix.
Spread the caramelized popcorn out onto a baking sheet to cool. Be careful, as it will be very hot.
Dica: Start pulling the pieces apart as soon as the popcorn begins to cool.
After it has cooled completely, separate the pieces of popcorn and serve or store in airtight bags to maintain crispness.
Dica: It lasts several days while staying crunchy if stored properly.
