Turn off the heat and add the butter or margarine to the caramel.

Incorporate the sweetened condensed milk into the caramel and butter mixture.

Turn the heat back on and stir continuously until the mixture thickens and begins to form large bubbles, indicating the fudge consistency (dulce de leche point).
Dica: Stirring nonstop guarantees the texture and prevents sticking to the bottom.
Remove from the heat and allow the preparation to cool for better consistency and flavor before serving.
